What: The City Council will discuss a proposed ordinance change that would allow the city staff, rather than the council, to handle some requests involving “landmark trees.” Those trees are older, historic ones, and current city law requires the City Council to act on requests for cutting or removing such trees.

Newport Beach

City Council meeting

When: Today, 7 p.m.

Where: City Council Chambers, Newport Beach City Hall, 3300 Newport Blvd.

What: The council will consider spending $3.4 million to join a countywide emergency services radio network. The panel is also expected to schedule a June 12 public hearing to consider a proposed noise ordinance, the city’s annual budget hearing and plans for Pacific View Memorial Park’s expansion. The council will receive and file the city’s annual rental vacancy survey.

City Council meeting

When: Tuesday, 6:30 p.m.

Where: City Council Chambers, 7800 Katella Ave.

What: The City Council will consider a mission statement and bylaws made by the city’s staff to guide the actions of a mobile home advisory committee. The council will also set meeting dates to begin reviewing the city’s budget for the coming year.

Laguna Beach

City Council meeting

When: Tuesday, 6 p.m.

Where: City Council Chambers, 505 Forest Ave.

What: After months of public hearings, the City Council will vote on a revised safety section of the city’s General Plan, and on a new Landscape and Scenic Highways Element. The safety section deals with the city’s response to such problems as fires, landslides and earthquakes. The Landscape and Scenic Highways Element offers guidelines for neighborhood landscaping and for planting along highways.
