BOOK MARK: It’s the book the defense attorneys didn’t want you to read. . . . From worrying about his image to saying he may have to lie in court, Lyle Menendez is again raising eyebrows--with his new book, “The Private Diary of Lyle Menendez.” Based on tape recordings, it is likely to be used in the Menendez brothers’ retrial this summer (B1).

TERM LIFE: The U.S. Supreme Court ruled Monday that individual states may not limit the terms of members of Congress (A1). The decision overturns term limits in California, where some breathed a sigh of relief. Said Rep. Carlos J. Moorhead (R-Glendale), now in his 12th term: “I don’t think the people who have been in for four years have the background to make the very complicated economic decisions.”

BATTER UP: Dodger coach Reggie Smith, above, sees his field of dreams in the Valley. . . . The batting instructor to the last three major league rookies of the year will open Reggie Smith’s Baseball Development Center in Warner Center in 1996. Among the features: a full-size infield and a sports therapy facility. See Valley Business, Page 3.

ROAD LESS TRAVELED: Sure, there’s a 6% increase in nationwide employment opportunities over last year. But college graduates in the Valley aren’t feeling smug about their job prospects. . . . Corporate downsizing has cut off the middle-management career road for many, leaving only service, sales and retail management jobs. See Valley Business, Page 10.

WATERED DOWN: Jerry Bolduc is in search of calmer waters. . . . Last week the controversial renter left his hillside “Party Palace” mansion in Studio City, whose owner is facing foreclosure, for a beachside home in Santa Monica. But does that mean an end to Bolduc’s themed parties like those that infuriated neighbors and prompted lawsuits? “I’m going to have some yacht parties,” Bolduc said. “I don’t have all those pesky neighbors out at sea.”
