Man Sprays Gunfire Inside Israeli Church
A young man dressed in an Israeli army uniform sprayed automatic gunfire inside a church in Jaffa on Monday. No one was hurt, and the gunman surrendered after an hour of negotiations, police said.
His identity and motive were not immediately known.
Israel TV showed policemen collecting what it said were hundreds of rounds inside the bullet-pocked church.
About 1,000 outraged Arabs demonstrated in central Jaffa, an ancient Mediterranean port that is part of modern Tel Aviv and home to several thousand Israeli Arab citizens.
