VENTURA, OJAI : Recall Petitions Filed Against Larner, Miller

Share

Recall petitions were filed Wednesday against two members of the Ventura County Board of Education, said Jenny Harrison, deputy county elections clerk.

The petitions were filed by a group known as Recall Education Campaign Against Larner and Miller (RECALL).

RECALL leaders have vowed to unseat Angela N. Miller of Ventura and Wendy Larner of Ojai for voting to suspend the use of Planned Parenthood and AIDS Care speakers at county-sponsored sex education workshops for teachers.

Harrison said RECALL can begin collecting signatures as soon as elections officials review the petitions and determine that they conform with election laws. That should take no more than 10 days, she said. The group will need to collect about 15,000 signatures against each board member to qualify the recall for a vote in March.

RECALL plans to begin collecting signatures June 1, said Neil Demers-Grey, a recall organizer. A steering committee has been formed to oversee the separate campaigns against Larner and Miller, he said.

Meanwhile, opponents of the pair’s recall have formed their own group and vowed to defeat the recall effort. Their organization is called Citizens for Accountability in Public Education.
