SAN DIEGO — Kenneth Bogard, 37, a popular bandleader and singer convicted of raping and attacking seven women in assaults that terrorized women for two years, was sentenced Thursday to 96 years in prison.
The case gained widespread attention when one of the victims, Kim Caldwell, allowed the news media to use her name and show her face. Police credit Caldwell with helping rally the community and assisting in the investigation that led to the arrest of Bogard.
Prior to Bogard being sentenced by Superior Court Judge John Thompson, Caldwell, 33, an airline employee, was allowed to address her attacker.
