Chronicle Heiress Loses Lawsuit: Chronicle Publishing Co.’s former chairwoman lost her suit to regain a board seat on the San Francisco newspaper when a state judge ruled that she was not an employee entitled to protection under age-discrimination laws. Nan Tucker McEvoy sued the closely held company and more than a dozen of her relatives after the board passed a new bylaw in April barring directors over the age of 73. McEvoy is 75. San Francisco County Superior Court Judge Stuart Pollack ruled that McEvoy had not presented evidence in her suit that proved she was an employee. McEvoy controls 33% of the publishing firm, which also owns three TV stations and several cable systems. The remaining two-thirds is divided into smaller shares owned by her cousins.
