Memorial Day Holiday Events

Several Memorial Day programs are planned locally for Monday. The following is a list of some of the events:

* A Memorial Day program and wreath-laying ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m. at Parcher Plaza behind Glendale City Hall, 613 E. Broadway. The Glendale Chamber of Commerce’s Citizenship and Patriotism Committee, along with the city of Glendale, is sponsoring the event. Information: (818) 248-1959.

* Valhalla Memorial Park, 10621 Victory Blvd., North Hollywood, has planned its Memorial Day services for 10 a.m. Information: (818) 763-9121.

* The Lest We Forget Memorial Day Parade, featuring 128 entries, will begin at 11 a.m. at Owensmouth Avenue and Sherman Way in Canoga Park. The parade will end at Owensmouth Avenue and Vanowen Street with an awards ceremony at about 1 p.m. KNBC weatherman and traffic reporter Paul Johnson will be the grand marshal. The parade is sponsored by the Canoga Park/West Hills Chamber of Commerce and the Canoga Park Community Center. Information: (818) 884-4222.

* Holiday services will begin at 11 a.m. at Valley Oaks Memorial Park, 5600 N. Lindero Canyon Road, Westlake Village. Information: (818) 889-0902.

* The Veterans of Foreign Wars Gudgeion Ship 8310 Drill Team will conduct services at 11:45 a.m. at American Legion Post 150, 940 W. Olive Ave., Burbank. The drill team will also perform at 12:30 p.m. at the Disabled American Veterans Hall Chapter 40, 1115 Magnolia Blvd., Burbank. Information: (818) 843-4796.
