TENNIS : Edberg Leads Sweden to Title
Stefan Edberg won his singles and doubles matches as Sweden defeated Croatia, 2-1, and won the World Team Cup tournament Sunday at Duesseldorf, Germany.
Edberg beat Sasa Hirszon, 6-4, 6-1, then teamed with Jonas Bjoerkman to defeat Hirszon and Goran Ivanisevic, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, giving Sweden its third title in the $1.8 million tournament. The Swedes also won in 1988 and 1991.

Top-seeded Lindsay Davenport beat Kimiko Date of Japan, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, in the final of the Strasbourg Open in France. . . . Chile’s Marcelo Rios won a battle of unseeded players, defeating Marcelo Filippini of Uruguay, 6-2, 6-4, to capture the $303,000 Bologna Open in Italy. It was Rios’ first ATP victory.
