Freedom of Religion

I applaud the recent articles in The Times by Norman Lear and David Ramage and by Rabbi Eli Hecht discussing their concerns about the radical religious right. However, these concerns should not be restricted to the Jewish community.

People of all faiths need to consider the effect of an agenda of intolerance that’s the trademark of such groups.

And it’s even more alarming now that the Christian Coalition has enlisted a major political party to do its bidding with the proposed “contract with the American family.”

All of us--liberal and conservative Protestant denominations, Catholics, Muslims, Eastern religions, nonbelievers--will lose personal freedoms unless we stand together to preserve the separation of church and state in America.
