MID-CITY : Police Seeking Identity of Sniper Who Killed Man
Los Angeles police are seeking clues to the identity of a sniper who killed a 21-year-old man and seriously wounded two teen-agers in an attack on a Memorial Day party in a park in the Mid-City area.
Witnesses told police that the unidentified gunman fired on the gathering about 3:45 p.m. from the roof of an apartment building, a few yards from the grassy area at Mascot and Pickford streets, according to a Wilshire station detective.
Jose Tovar, 21, died from a single gunshot wound to the head. A 17-year-old girl was hospitalized in serious but stable condition with a stomach wound and a 16-year-old boy was in serious condition with a head wound.
The shooting is believed to be gang-related, police said.
