SUNSET BEACH : After-Dark Patrols Sought to Stop Use of Illegal Fireworks July 4th

Share

Residents of this small, unincorporated beachside community will meet with representatives of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department Thursday to discuss concerns about patrols planned for the upcoming Fourth of July holiday.

Some residents say that in past years, deputies patrolling beach areas during the Fourth of July holiday tend to leave after the sun goes down.

Sunset Beach Community Assn. President Phyllis Maywhort said residents fear that the widespread use of illegal fireworks, including bottle rockets, could set their homes on fire. Maywhort and others are urging the Sheriff’s Department to extend patrols after dark to prevent the use of illegal fireworks.
