Foster Parenting Desperately Needed

* The month of May was designated “National Foster Parent Awareness Month.” As licensed Ventura County foster parents for over six years, we would like to encourage others to reach out and make a difference in a child’s life.

It is a hands-on effort that is very rewarding. It is impossible to measure or describe the pleasure and joy that we have received while giving drug-exposed babies a loving, caring start in life. This same pleasure can also be derived from being responsible for special-needs children, siblings and children over 10 years old. Foster homes are desperately needed for these children.

The number of licensed foster parents, to care for more than 390 children, has steadily declined from 350 several years ago to 260 in 1995. For orientation sessions and licensing information, call the Ventura County Public Social Services Agency.
