Readers won’t be able to pick up Coast Compute magazine for nothing anymore.

The publishers of the Irvine computer publication, beset by a decline in advertising, have taken their product off the stacks of free magazines and will now sell it only through subscriptions.

The decline in advertising revenue, mainly ads by computer retailers, meant that the monthly magazine needed other sources of income, said Bob Lowe and Kim McDonald, Coast Compute’s publishers.

Founded seven years ago, the magazine includes reviews of new software products and offers tips on using the Internet and other network systems. Subscriptions will cost $19 a year.
