The Food Is Only One Part of This Course on Perfect Picnicking

Picnic time is just . . . about . . . here.

So Zov’s Bistro is presenting Deborah Fabricant and a course on “Summer Picnics” at the next event in the restaurant’s cooking series. The emphasis Monday evening from 6:30 to 9:30 will not only be on food but also on the many intricacies of a successful picnic.

Fabricant, creator and host of “The Art of Entertaining” on KNBC’s “Today in L.A.,” will prepare a menu including asparagus and scallop lollipops, Mediterranean eggplant stacks, and citrus rice custard with mango cheeks and burnt cream.

The cost is $50, reservations required.

He “lived in the woods so he knowed every tree,” but apparently Davy Crockett must have been paying attention to the vines, too.

The man in the coonskin cap, who also played Daniel Boone, will attend a five-course dinner focusing on the wines he produces at Santa Barbara-based Fess Parker Winery, Monday at the Hotel Laguna’s Claes Seafood Etc.

Chef Todd Clore will prepare dishes including a wild mushroom plate with angel hair pasta, and smoked veal rack with a blackberry essence.

Parker will bring a half dozen wines to the table, among them two Chardonnays, a Sirah, a Merlot and a Muskrat, er, Muscat.

The cost, $55, is all-inclusive.

“Trinidad and Tabasco” is the theme of a buffet dinner at Golden Truffle on Wednesday, the first of several upcoming Caribbean food events at the restaurant.

Among the offerings are conch and shrimp fritters with habanero salsa, curried reef fish with Tabasco, “cook-up” rice with land crab, callaloo (taro leaf) salad with coconut pepper, and barbecued grouper salad with hearts of palm.

The evening begins at 6:30 p.m.; $45 does not include beverages, tax or tip.

Caribbean food month continues with a crayfish festival June 13 to 17, and a “Nights in Jamaica” dinner, with live music, June 21.
