America Online to Buy Internet Access Provider: The company said it agreed to acquire Global Network Navigator, one of the most-visited sites on the World Wide Web, for $11 million from O’Reilly & Associates Inc. of Berkeley. It also said it has acquired the WebCrawler, a popular and easy-to-use Internet search tool developed by a graduate student at the University of Washington who had been distributing the software free over the Internet. The two pieces of software will be used to launch a new Internet access service set to debut Aug. 24--the day Microsoft Corp. releases its much-anticipated on-line service. The new service will be separate from the main AOL service, which itself offers Internet access.
