On Webber

Share

Thanks for Don Heckman’s insightful review (“A Brightman Shade of Andrew Lloyd Webber Songs,” May 20). It’s about time that people recognize Mr. Webber as the musical minor leaguer he really is.

Of course, his fame is readily understandable in the context of the 1990s. This is, after all, the decade in which the continued dumbing down of America has resulted in the widespread popularity of country music, Newt and his Republican roustabouts and “America’s Funniest Home Videos.”

Let us hope that some day soon we will begin to ascend toward a future in which quality, subtlety and intelligence will be rediscovered as virtues.
