Interactive Network Announces Layoffs: The San Jose-based company, which lets customers play along with televised sports and game shows, said it is laying off most of its workers and sharply cutting back its service. The company has been unable to turn a profit and said the cuts are necessary while it searches for other sources of financing. Interactive Network said it will lay off 160 employees and retain a core crew of 35 managers and technicians. It said it has only enough money for the next two months and will close if it does not find the financing. Interactive Network Inc. said it will curtail service in its San Francisco, Sacramento, Indianapolis, Chicago and South Bend, Ind., test markets. The firm’s stock tumbled 9.4 cents on the news, to close at 22 cents on Nasdaq. It had been as high as $2.375 earlier this year.
