United Reorganization Proceeds: The airline is transferring 245 maintenance jobs to Indianapolis this month as part of a 10-year plan to eliminate 2,000 positions at San Francisco International Airport. Chicago-based United Airlines stressed that no one will be laid off, and the San Francisco maintenance facility, where 8,400 currently work, will remain a major employer. The move is part of United’s plan to reorganize its fleet-repair workload to allow its three maintenance bases--San Francisco, Oakland and Indianapolis--to specialize on particular aircraft types. The company said that this month’s transfers will be voluntary. Anyone who does not want to go will be retrained.
