MOORPARK : More Space Sought for Police Storefront

Share

The tiny police storefront in Moorpark that is staffed by volunteers has been so successful since it opened six months ago that it needs more space and volunteers, officers said.

Situated in small, donated space in the front of a former bank building at Moorpark Avenue and High Street, the Moorpark Police Resource Center--as it is known--has barely enough room for the volunteers, said Lt. Marty Rouse, who heads the Moorpark Enforcement Division of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies often use the office and its computer to write crime reports, Rouse said. If a resident or two drops by with questions while deputies are working, it can become difficult to move around, he said.

The storefront has about 20 volunteers who work Mondays through Fridays. On average, about 10 people drop by every day with complaints, questions and requests, Rouse said in a report given to the Moorpark City Council on Wednesday.

Along with increasing the size of the office, Rouse said he hopes to attract at least 10 more volunteers. For more information or to volunteer, call the center at 531-9113.
