A bright red balloon sailing through the sky between two white birds will adorn posters for the first Thousand Oaks Children’s Film Festival.
The image was chosen from among 20 posters submitted by Conejo Valley children as part of a poster contest.
Danielle Schaeffer, 11, from Willow Elementary School in Agoura Hills submitted the winning entry.
Six other children were honored in their age groups. Their posters will be on display in the Civic Arts Plaza next week, and their names will be placed on permanent bricks at the arts plaza.
Competition organizer Martha Zilm said the alliance was trying to introduce children to the arts and filmmaking.
“We’re trying to teach them to think about the films that they see and try to interpret the view portrayed,” she said.
The posters were based on the short children’s film “The Red Balloon” and were judged by a panel that included school officials and stars Marion Ross from “Happy Days” and Ariana Richards from “Jurassic Park.”
Upcoming events sponsored by the alliance include a filmmaking workshop for children June 28 to July 26 and the film festival, which begins in October.
