FULLERTON : City to Take Final Budget Action June 20

Share

The City Council, after considering such spending cuts as reducing staff, reorganizing City Hall and raising fees, will consider a final 1995-96 budget June 20.

At several public hearings on the city’s finances this week, council members gave preliminary approval to the proposed $81.7-million budget, which would eliminate four Police Department jobs and two Fire Department jobs, among other cuts, and increase some community service and maintenance fees.

The city refuse fee, for example, would rise to $13.45 a month from the current level of $11.13, an increase that officials said is necessary because the county is proposing a 53% increase in landfill fees.

A total of 38 full-time positions would be eliminated.

In addition, a new Administrative Services Department would take over the duties of the current Finance Department, which would be dissolved, as well has handling legal services, management information programs, fiscal operations and planning functions.

On June 20, the council will consider cutting three community service jobs, reducing the pay of instructors who teach city-sponsored classes and raising fees for such courses, including swimming lessons.
