Volunteers Sought for Beach Cleanup

LAGUNA BEACH — The Surfrider Foundation is looking for volunteers to help clean up Aliso Beach from 9 to 11 a.m. Sunday.
Volunteers will be given plastic gloves and garbage bags as soon as they show up at Laguna’s Aliso Pier. After the pickup, each will be given a tote bag as a sign of the foundation’s appreciation.
“Anybody we can get, we’ll take,” said Doug Alexander, who is coordinating the event for the foundation.
Volunteers will work their way south--about a quarter mile in all--starting from Treasure Island mobile home park, he said.
A lot of the trash on the beach is the result of Aliso Creek clogging up during storms in January, Alexander said. The last time the beach was swept of debris was last October, he added.
In July, volunteers will clean up Laguna’s Main Beach, but first rainstorm-related repairs have to be finished, he said.
