CityWalk and Crime: A Difference in Perception

Share

* I have a viewpoint contrary to that of the sheriff’s lieutenant at CityWalk interviewed for Street Beat (May 24).

I have spent considerable time at CityWalk, specifically on various Friday and Saturday nights from 9 p.m. on. It does not seem to be the safe place he describes. The area appears to be a magnet for gang members to hang out. They can be seen in groups, and at times with no security around. Let’s face it, a group of four to nine gang members milling about and staring at everyone is not a comfortable experience. Furthermore, many more fights have broken out both in the Cineplex and CityWalk than were admitted.

I have spoken with many parents who will not allow their children to go to Universal CityWalk because they are afraid of the gangs.
