WESTWOOD : Candlelight Vigil Will Mark Anniversary of Brown-Goldman Slayings
The Los Angeles Chapter of the National Organization for Women will sponsor a candlelight vigil in remembrance of victims of violence on the one-year anniversary of the slayings of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Lyle Goldman.
The vigil, which is co-sponsored by the Los Angeles Commission on Assaults Against Women, will beMonday from 9:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Westwood Federal Building, 11000 Westwood Blvd. in West Los Angeles. The event will coincide with the Brown and Goldman family vigils and is endorsed by the Nicole Brown Simpson Foundation.
O.J. Simpson, Nicole’s ex-husband, has pleaded not guilty to the June 12 killings.
Organizers hope the event will bring attention to the issue of domestic violence and help save lives.
“This is a candlelight vigil for all the victims,” said Tammy Bruce, NOW Los Angeles chapter president. “Hopefully, it will galvanize the community to put an end to this crime.”
As participants arrive, each will be handed a candle and a tag bearing the name of a domestic violence victim. “The name tags are a personal reminder of the hundreds of people’s lives lost to violence,” Bruce said.
Candles will be lit beginning at 10 p.m., and names of victims will be read. Five minutes of silence will be observed to honor the victims.
