Anaheim Council Budget Session Set for Tuesday

Share

The City Council will hold the second of three study sessions on its budget for the 1995-96 fiscal year at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

The public hearing will focus on five city departments: community development, public utilities, planning, public works and human resources.

A final study session and action on the budget is expected at the June 20 council meeting.

Anaheim’s total proposed budget of more than $573 million represents an 8.5% spending cut from the previous year. Most of the decline is due to decreased spending by the city Public Utilities Department.

Thirty-one city positions are scheduled for elimination, including nine management jobs. But the budget calls for the addition of nine police officers, whose salaries would be partially funded by a federal program.

The proposed budget would also restore Monday service hours at four branches of the city library system, and expand services for at-risk youth.

Among the items scheduled for discussion at Tuesday’s regular 5 p.m. council meeting is a proposal to dissolve the city’s Investment Review Committee and form an Investment Advisory Commission. The commission would assist council members and the city treasurer with investments and other financial matters.

Council meetings are at City Hall, 200 S. Anaheim Blvd. Information: (714) 254-5100.
