The public relations director of the Ventura Visitors & Convention Bureau will move across the Santa Clara River to take a similar position in Oxnard.

The executive, Janis Flippen, will be in charge of publicity programs for the Greater Oxnard & Harbors Tourism Bureau. She will replace Bob Carter, a free-lance travel writer who has held the job on a temporary basis for the past year.

Flippen has worked for the Ventura bureau for the past six years. Before that, she was sales manager of the Oxnard Hilton Inn and also promoted convention business in Oxnard.

She’ll work for the Oxnard bureau as an independent contractor and will continue to operate her own PR firm in Camarillo.

“I may continue to do some special projects related to Ventura tourism,” Flippen said. “But I wanted to move on because the bureau’s director has taken over much of the PR work that I had been doing.”
