REDONDO BEACH : Psychologist Gets Probation for Massaging Patient’s Neck

Share

A Redondo Beach psychologist who massaged a female patient’s neck and shoulders during a therapy session has been placed on probation for three years, a state official said Monday.

Dr. Craig Clark admitted in an out-of-court settlement that he was practicing outside his scope of competence during the 1993 incident, according to Tom O’Connor, executive officer of the Department of Consumer Affairs’ Board of Psychology.

Psychologist’s probation--A wire service report in The Times on Tuesday incorrectly stated the terms of a three-year probation required for Redondo Beach psychologist Craig Clark by the Department of Consumer Affairs’ Board of Psychology. There is no requirement that a monitor be present in the same room with him during counseling sessions with female patients.

A monitor will have to be present when the psychologist treats women, and Clark must complete 60 hours of course work while on probation, O’Connor said. Clark must pay the costs of the monitor during his probation and reimburse the board $2,500 for investigation and enforcement costs.
