Police Boosters Plan Dinner and Auction

Share

The Mid-Valley Community Police Council is planning a Western-style dinner and auction this month to raise funds for crime prevention projects and community outreach programs conducted through the Los Angeles Police Department’s Van Nuys Division.

The “Cops & Cowboys” dinner and auction will include live country-western entertainment and a barbecue dinner. Those attending will also be able to bid on jewelry, Las Vegas getaway packages and a Channel Islands fishing excursion.

Funds raised from the event will go toward purchase of equipment for Van Nuys Division officers, graffiti removal and continued operation of the Police Department’s Jeopardy program, which counsels at-risk teen-agers to stay away from gangs and drugs.

“We have a huge range of people living in the mid-Valley area,” said Marilyn Potter, a council board member. “Crime is still very prominent in some sections. There are some things the officers need, like computers, that the LAPD has no budget for.

“Before we helped the Van Nuys Division redo its roll-call room, there were some chairs missing in the aisles. The officers were sitting on poles. We need to make sure they can be fully functional.

“People need to work harder to support the Police Department,” she added. “By doing so, we can all live in a better community.”

The “Cops & Cowboys” dinner and auction is scheduled for 5 p.m. June 24 at the All Valley Washer Service Warehouse, 10520 Delano St., Van Nuys. Tickets are $17.50 each. For information, call (818) 908-3813.
