The Supreme Court on Monday reinstated a lawsuit by a former inmate who said federal officials conspired before the 1988 election to keep him from telling reporters he once sold marijuana to former Vice President Dan Quayle.

The justices ordered the U.S. appeals court to reconsider the case of former inmate Brett Kimberlin, who argues that his claims should be allowed to proceed to trial. Kimberlin seeks damages in the civil suit and claims his constitutional rights were violated.
