Lakers Are Not Expected to Protect Threatt, Harvey From Expansion Draft

Share

Sedale Threatt and Antonio Harvey are the two Lakers expected to be left unprotected when NBA teams submit their lists today for the expansion draft June 24.

Randy Woods will probably head the Clipper contingent of five players who will be made available under the formula in which each club freezes eight players and gives Toronto and Vancouver the pick of the rest. The exception is that unrestricted free agents cannot be protected or claimed.

The loss of Threatt, their only true backup point guard, could hurt the Lakers. But they prefer to leave him exposed instead of such younger players as George Lynch and Anthony Miller, especially since there is a chance the expansion teams may not want someone who turns 34 in September and will make $2.4 million next season.
