LONG BEACH : 17 Adults, 2 Juveniles Held in Multi-Agency Sweep
Seventeen adults and two juveniles were arrested Wednesday in Long Beach during a sweep for known drug dealers, gang members and parole violators, a police spokesman said.
More than 150 Long Beach police officers and city, county, state and federal agents hit the streets at 5 a.m., targeting 41 locations.
The 12th and largest of the “Operation Clean Streets” sweeps was sparked by a rash of recent shootings and homicides in the area, said Cpl. Josef Levy of the Long Beach Police Department.
Joining the police in the raids, Levy said, were officers from the state Parole’s Special Services Unit; the California Youth Authority, the Los Angeles County Probation Department, the U.S. Department of Justice, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and the Immigration and Naturalization Service.
The suspects were arrested on suspicion of parole and probation violations, drug possession and sales and possession of guns and dangerous weapons, Levy said. He said officers recovered one car and a variety of other stolen property.
