SANTA ANA : Parking Limits Sought Near Foothill High
The Orange County Traffic Committee on Friday recommended limits on street parking in neighborhoods near Foothill High School to help alleviate traffic congestion.
Residents have complained that students are parking on Whembly and Woodglen drives, two cul-de-sacs, causing traffic hazards.
To remedy the situation, the committee proposed to restrict parking from 8 to 10 a.m. on the two streets between September and June. Students would be able to park their cars in the bike lanes on the north and south sides of Dodge Avenue between Newport and Hewes avenues.
The bike lanes were previously off-limits to students but would be available to students when school resumes in the fall. The high school’s parking lot has 369 spaces for an estimated 950 student drivers.
The panel’s proposal will go before the County Board of Supervisors in the next few weeks, said James Swatzel, a senior civil engineer for the county’s Traffic Department. If the plan is approved, restricted-parking signs will be posted in six to eight weeks along Whembly and Woodglen, he said.
The high school is in the unincorporated area of Cowan Heights.
