HEALING MASS: Catholic charismatic prayer groups from 10 San Fernando Valley parishes have planned a two-hour Mass and healing service Monday at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Reseda--the first such regional event in the Los Angeles archdiocese, organizers said.

Six priests who have held healing Masses in the past will concelebrate the liturgy. Father Ron Young, an associate pastor at St. Ferdinand parish in San Fernando, will be the principal presider.

Father Charles Lueras, an associate pastor at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Silver Lake, will preside over the healing service, which a spokesman said will consist of the laying on of hands, anointing and prayers for healing.

“The priests and organizers are looking to God to heal his people physically, emotionally and spiritually,” said Ken Elsey of Sylmar, the Valley representative of the event’s sponsor, the Southern California Renewal Communities.

The Healing Mass Crusade, open to the public, will begin at 7 p.m., with the doors of the church, at 18115 Sherman Way, opening 30 minutes earlier. For more information, call (818) 363-8418.

CHRISTIAN WRITERS: A four-day conference for Christian writers seeking professional tips on preparing and selling their manuscripts will be held July 27-30 at The Master’s College in Newhall.

Liz Curtis Higgs, author of “Only Angels Can Wing It” and other books, will be the keynote speaker July 29, said conference director Lowell (Doc) Saunders, chairman of the college’s communications department. The opening night speaker will be Wightman Weese, most recently an editor at Tyndale House Publishers.

The basic registration cost is $220. For more information, call (714) 990-1532.

BURBANK PASTOR: Burbank’s largest Protestant congregation, the 1,200-member Calvary Bible Church, will celebrate the Rev. Richard Laue’s 20 years in its pulpit Sunday morning.

Laue accepted the post as senior pastor of the church in 1974, when it had 350 members, after 17 years as pastor of the Inglewood Christian Church in Indianapolis.
