Los Angeles police went on tactical alert Saturday night after an officer was wounded by gunfire on North Gordon Street near Paramount Studios in Hollywood.

A second officer reportedly remained in danger from a sniper in the area, and at least one man was being held in connection with the shooting, authorities said shortly before 11:30 p.m.

Police were proceeding as if suspects remained in the area, which was blocked off from traffic late Saturday, Lt. John Dunkin told reporters. He said the injured officer had been shot twice, once in the leg and once in the buttocks.

The shooting occurred shortly after 9 p.m. and the wounded officer was transported to a nearby hospital. The officer was in stable condition, Officer Gerald Todd said. LAPD Metro SWAT members were dispatched to the area. The situation was still unfolding late Saturday.

Area resident Artur Konalyan said that he heard gunshots--”too many to count”--about 9:15 p.m., and that police cars were soon swarming through his neighborhood, with a helicopter flying overhead.

“They’re all over the place. It’s like World War II,” Konalyan said.
