May Jobless Report Due: Orange County’s unemployment figures for May are to be released today by the state Employment Development Department. The county’s jobless rate is likely to climb in May from April as more people enter the labor market in search of summer jobs. But, the county’s jobless rate has been anything but predictable this year, starting at 5.4% in January, falling to a low of 4.7% in March, then climbing back up to 5.3% in April. For all this volatility, Orange County has continued to see an increase in jobs and its unemployment rate has remained one of the lowest in the state, despite the county government’s bankruptcy.
