SIMI VALLEY : Sign-Ups Begin for Summer Classes

Share

Simi Valley residents from newborns to seniors who want summer classes in swimming, basketball and a host of other activities can register through the end of this week.

After the week’s end, interested people can sign up until the first day of class, as long as openings remain. Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District catalogues were sent to all homes, but more are still available by calling the district.

Some classes, such as day camp and swimming, fill up early, said district spokesman Rick Johnson.

The swimming classes teach children to be proficient swimmers as well as how to be safe around a pool, he said.

“A lot of people who learned how to swim as children through our tiny-tots swim program 20 years ago are now young adults and are bringing back their children to learn to swim,” he said.

The day camp at Sequoia Neighborhood Park is full, but openings remain at the Rancho Simi Community Park.

Other classes include water adjustment classes for infants to three-year-old children and beginning swimming for adults over 18. There are also lap classes for seniors.

The district also offers fitness, basketball and volleyball classes, as well as driving safety instruction for seniors.

Prices vary according to the class and number of meetings.
