Joan Baez, “David’s Album,” Vanguard.***
The folk heroine stepped over into country (slightly) in this 1969 collection, which was dedicated to her then-husband, David Harris, and others who were in prison for draft resistance. Her voice is as lovely as ever on such old favorites as “The Tramp on the Street” and “Poor Wayfaring Stranger” as well as the more contemporary “Green, Green Grass of Home” and “Hickory Wind” (co-written by Gram Parsons). Engaging.
