San Gabriel Valley : 3 Council Members Won’t Face Recall

Three Covina City Council members will not face a recall election in November, thanks to a Los Angeles Superior Court judge’s preliminary ruling Thursday.
Judge Diane L. Wayne agreed with the city attorney’s ruling that the petitions used by recall proponents are invalid because the name of those backing the bid were not on every page.
Mayor Thomas M. O’Leary, Mayor Pro Tem Linda Sarver and Councilman Thomas M. Falls were targeted for recall in December after they backtracked on their pledges of no new taxes and approved an 8.25% utility tax.
On June 6, after national media coverage, the council reversed its position and agreed to allow voters in November to decide whether to keep the utility tax.
Recall proponents are undeterred by the judge or the chance to vote on the tax.
“We’ll start again,” vowed Hank Vagt, a recall leader. . . .
