PLACENTIA : Council Denies Mortuary Permit

The City Council has denied a permit for a new mortuary on the east side of town after a number of residents objected that funeral processions would cause traffic hazards.
The Mcaulay & Wallace Mortuary, which now operates in Fullerton, wanted to establish business at Yorba Linda Boulevard and Linda Vista Drive, in a former Tarbell Real Estate office.
Bill Mcaulay, part owner of the mortuary, said he did not believe traffic would have posed a problem but added that he would continue to look for a more suitable site in the city, which the council urged him to do.
“Basically, I feel that this piece of land is not the safest area for driving in and out of,” said Councilwoman Carol Downey before the 4-1 vote.
The lone dissenter, Councilman John O. Tynes, said that he did not think traffic would generate problems and that the mortuary was a respectable business that should be given a chance.
The city’s Planning Commission approved a use permit for the mortuary in May, but residents of Canterbury Court and the Sherwood Village condominiums immediately appealed the ruling.
