LEIMERT PARK : Free Dance, Jazz Workshops Offered

The Jazzantiqua Dance Ensemble/Mark Shelby Jazz Quartet is conducting a series of summer dance and music courses for musicians, composers, professional dancers, choreographers and advanced dance students.

Led by dancer/choreographer Pat Taylor and bassist Mark Shelby, the workshops will explore the roots and development of jazz music and dance.

The free series begins Saturday and Sunday at the Dance Collective Studio and Resource Center, 4327 Degnan Blvd., and continues for four consecutive weekends.

Lecturers and instructors include Los Angeles-based choreographers, and several master classes will be offered.

Students of jazz are encouraged to enroll for the sessions, which feature accompaniments by local jazz musicians.
