Boyd E. (Ned) Thomason, a Ventura banker who was a leader in many city charities and community groups, has died. He was 87.

The cause was congestive heart failure, said his wife, Betty Thomason.

Thomason was a trustee and treasurer of Community Memorial Hospital from 1962 to 1979. He served on the boards of the Ventura Chamber of Commerce, Community Fund, Red Cross, the YMCA and the Ventura County Retirement Board. He was a past president of the Saticoy Country Club.

“He was in everything in Ventura,” his wife said.

Born in Nashville, Tenn., Thomason moved to Los Angeles in 1931 and began working as a bookkeeper for Security First National Bank. He moved to Ventura in 1951 as manager of the downtown branch of the bank, and retired in 1971. The bank is now part of Bank of America.
