A new cop-and-community center in Westlake is giving new meaning to the term one-stop shopping.
Residents can file police reports and express concerns about nagging housing, sanitation and other problems to city staffers on the ground floor of City National Bank at 1730 W. Olympic Blvd.
Police Officer Jason Lee of the Rampart Division will staff the center from noon to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday. City housing and building safety officials, other police officers and community volunteers are expected to drop in and lend a hand from time to time.
Jose Gardea, a field deputy for City Councilman Mike Hernandez, will work there part time.
Besides donating the 1,400-square-foot space, the Beverly Hills-based bank also provided three computers, three typewriters, office furniture, a fax machine and a copy machine. The city will supply telephone service.
Lee said the Rampart Division has six other stop-in centers, but this will be the only one that is staffed full time--eight hours a day, five days a week.
Police, of course, will have access to the substation around the clock. . . .
