Ex-Colleagues Cheer New County Chief

Ventura County’s new chief administrative officer, Lin Koester, had plenty of moral support Tuesday at his first Board of Supervisors meeting.

Among those who showed up to cheer him on were several of his former bosses and colleagues from Simi Valley City Hall, where Koester spent the past 16 years as city manager.

Attendees included council members Bill Davis, Sandi Webb and Barbara Williamson as well as newly appointed City Manager Mike Sedell and City Atty. John Torrance.

Despite the county’s mounting budget problems, the three council members assured the supervisors that they were in good hands with Koester. Williams even suggested that there might be more immediate problems around the County Government Center that Koester could resolve.

“By the way, Lin,” she joked, “the restrooms downstairs are out of hand towels.”

Koester, hired by supervisors last month to replace former county manager Richard Wittenberg, said he appreciated the support of the Simi Valley officials.

He also noted that the Simi Valley council had managed to approve a balanced budget Monday night.

“Hopefully, the county can follow through as well,” he said.
