SAN CLEMENTE : Council Appoints Interim Treasurer
The City Council has appointed finance director Paul Gudgeirsson to serve as interim city treasurer. He succeeds Kenneth E. Carr, who recently resigned.
Gudgeirsson will hold the job until November, 1996, when Carr’s term would have expired.
A measure on the March, 1996, ballot will propose that subsequent city treasurers be appointed rather than elected.
“I think events have shown us that it’s vitally important that people in that type of position be accountable to the governing body,” Councilman Joe Anderson said, a reference to last year’s collapse of the Orange County investment pool.
He and others said that by appointing a city treasurer, residents would be assured that the person holding the office is professionally trained.
