Famous silent film “vamp” Bebe Daniels was sentenced to five days in jail in 1921 by Santa Ana Judge John B. Cox after she was apprehended speeding down a Santa Ana street in her Marmon automobile. The daredevil speed: 45 m.p.h. Her stay in the slammer was eased by the delivery of a bedroom suite to her cell, courtesy of a local furniture store. Reputed to be the first woman convicted of speeding in Orange County, she also received special meals.
