World IN BRIEF : SLOVAKIA : Pope Plans to Canonize Martyrs
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Pope John Paul II plans to canonize three Catholic priests today who were martyred in Europe’s 17th-Century religious wars. In a gesture to Protestants angered by the plan, the Pope’s entourage announced that he will also visit a memorial to 24 Protestants killed in the strife.
