American, JAL Enter Cargo Pact: The carrier entered into an air cargo alliance with Japan Airlines that the airlines say will expand their cargo markets. The agreement calls for JAL to act as the general sales agent for American Airlines’ cargo operations in Japan, Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia. In turn, American, a unit of Ft. Worth-based AMR Corp., will represent Japan Airlines’ cargo division in 14 states in the United States and 26 countries in the Caribbean and Latin America. The agreement, signed at JAL headquarters in Tokyo, takes effect Sept. 1, the airlines said. Financial terms were not disclosed.
