ROBERTSON PLANE: Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson will sign a multimillion-dollar agreement with Lockheed-Martin Corp. Friday at Universal City to transform an L-1011 aircraft into a flying hospital for worldwide medical service, according to a spokesman for Robertson.

Robertson of Virginia Beach, Va., founder of the politically oriented Christian Coalition and host of the “700 Club” on his Family Channel, is also president of Operation Blessing, which purchased the wide-body airliner, the spokesman said.

The L-1011 will be outfitted with medical equipment in Tucson, Ariz., and will offer “medical treatment and educational services to populations with limited or no previous access to medical care,” according to an Operation Blessing announcement.

Robertson will raise funds through mailings and television appeals in the fall for the reconfiguration of the airplane, the spokesman said.

Robertson will sign the contract with a Lockheed-Martin executive Friday during a press briefing on the project at the Universal City Hilton Hotel.

‘CELESTINE PROPHECY’: The long-running best-selling novel “The Celestine Prophecy” by James Redfield will provide the context starting Monday for a four-night workshop led by lecturer-minister Tom Johnson at West Hills Church of Religious Science.

The workshop will “foster spiritual growth by exploring a deeper connection with [one’s] personal energy and [the] Divine Source,” according to a church announcement.

Offered through the church’s Center for Highly Effective Living, the workshop will meet on four consecutive Mondays from 7 to 9 p.m. The cost is $30 for the full workshop or $10 for each class. Information: (818) 883-1300.

Although the large congregation founded by Senior Rabbi Isaiah Zeldin is in the Reform Judaism tradition, August was ordained in Conservative Judaism after graduating from the Jewish Theological Seminary of America in New York in 1988. She most recently served a synagogue in southern Florida.

August, who will also teach two courses at the synagogue’s high school, will join Rabbi Leah Kroll as the second woman on the five-person rabbinical staff.

The ranks of women rabbis are increasing in the San Fernando Valley area. Only last week, Rabbi Paula Reimers was announced as the new rabbi for Burbank Temple Emanu El. Her appointment is also effective Aug. 1.
