Pursue Real Criminals, Not Trash Scavengers

Share

* Trash scavengers are doing a great public service. Just look at the statistics that City Councilwoman Laura Chick recently revealed. After pouring thousands of dollars of police patrol time into chasing the scavengers, the current resale value of the trash has jumped only about $8,000 per month, or a 23% increase, she reported.

The scavengers don’t charge the city anything to take away the trash for resale. If the city would stop making a separate trash pickup, it would save us all hundreds of thousands of dollars (above and beyond paltry resales of the trash). And the police should go back to much more important work about real crimes.
