ORANGE COUNTY ALMANAC : A Handy Swimsuit Inspector

Share

In the 1920s Orange County ministers successfully pushed several blue laws onto the books.

One Newport Beach ordinance specified that a woman’s bathing suit be no higher than 10 inches above the kneecaps.

But it was repealed in 1925 after the city’s official bathing suit inspector rankled women with his method of using two hand-widths to verify compliance.
